When will I receive my Teleporter?
Why is it only available in Norway?
While we’re striving for world domination, this is only our first batch of units, and we’re starting small. That means: if you’re in Norway and you want one, this is your last chance for a while.
How does the Teleporter work?
After a quick and easy setup, you plug in your instruments. Then you connect to a jam using your phone. Through your phone, you manage who you’re playing with and some other basic settings like effects and latency. Don’t worry, we’ll guide you through it when you’re there.
Who can I play with?
You can play with up to four others at a time, assuming a few things:
They also own a Teleporter
They are also connected to the internet with a minimum bandwidth of 5Mb/s
They are not too far away
You can estimate the max distance by all measuring your individual ping values in ms. (milliseconds.) Use the highest of all your numbers and calculate like this:
(20-ping) × 50
That will give you the estimated max distance you can play with each other in kilometers.
What instruments will work with the Teleporter?
The teleporter has two combo XLR-jacks with 48V phantom power. That means you can plug in just about anything you can think of. Guitar and microphone, stereo piano, two microphones, you name it.
What do I need to make my Teleporter work?
You need a network cable and a decent internet connection (5Mb/s.) That means fiber or coax. We recommend no less than X ping for a smooth experience. Most households in Norway qualify. If you are connecting the Teleporter from a corporate network, you may have to configure your firewall.
Can I use my effect units with the Teleporter?
Yes, and you can reach friends at further distance if they are analog effect units. All external digital effect units add latency. Analog effect units do not add significant latency, so use them as much as you like.
What’s the sound quality like?
It sounds professional-grade. The only hiccup comes from loss when sending the audio across the Internet. That’s why the unit records audio locally. By recording everything locally, before the audio is sent through the Internet, we retain the pristine sound quality any professional musician expects. The audio input section of the Teleporter is designed to deliver low noise and hot signals into the audio engine.
What’s the secret sauce?
We have built a hardware audio engine from the ground up to get optimal data paths for both audio and network. A cross-breed between VoIP and AoIP. The Teleporter engine minimize and/or repair network errors from the Internet, like jitter and packet loss. A lot of care have been given to our Packet Loss Concealer, which uses historical audio to mask audio drop-outs in case of network transmission errors.
